So they have arrived...the Evening Grosbeaks. We have had our bird feeders up for awhile. Lots of birds have found them. The nesting boxes have all been accounted for, but nothing compares with this new bird. Evening Grosbeaks....
They are very colorful. We love the almost fluorescent green beak. They have a big fat beak..perfect to eat all our sunflower seeds from the feeders. This one is a female.
Here's a male. He takes residence right on the feeder and doesn't leave until he's had his fill. There's some sort of hierarchy going on among the flock.
There is constant shuffling of birds. And there isn't just 3 or 4 of them...there are TWO DOZEN of them--6-8 per feeder!! Holy cow...they go through so much bird food each day. I have to fill the feeders every two days now. Before the Grosbeaks arrived I only had to fill them once a week! I may have to get a job this summer to pay for bird food if they keep this up!
